Managing Your RL Money - Tilia

A quick look at the key characteristics of Tilia

Understanding Tilia in Second Life

Tilia is a secure, licensed financial technology platform operated by the global payments leader Thunes. It serves as the official financial processing partner for Second Life, managing US Dollar (USD) wallets, Linden Dollar (L$) transactions, and fiat currency payouts (withdrawals) for all residents.

How Tilia Works in Second Life

Tilia powers all real-money aspects of the Second Life economy. Whenever you deal with actual fiat currency, you are interacting with Tilia's backend systems:

  • The USD Wallet: Tilia safely holds your US Dollar balances, which are typically generated by selling Linden Dollars (L$) through the LindeX.

  • Purchasing L$: Tilia processes your payment methods (credit cards, etc.) when you buy Linden Dollars.

  • Payouts & Withdrawals: Tilia handles cashing out your USD earnings to permitted external accounts.

Available Payout Methods

When withdrawing funds from your USD wallet, Tilia supports multiple payout providers, including:

  • PayPal

  • MassPay

  • Skrill (Note: Legacy users only. If Skrill was not linked to your account prior to February 2025, it can no longer be added as a new option.)

Important Things to Know

  • Terms of Service: Because Tilia is a licensed financial institution, users interacting with USD balances are required to agree to the Tilia Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

  • Account Verification (KYC): To remain compliant with federal and international financial regulations, Tilia processes all necessary "Know Your Customer" (KYC) identity verification and tax documentation.

  • No Extra Fees: The integration of Tilia does not introduce extra Second Life-specific fees for standard L$ transactions.
